Lykke's Reading Club: Henriette Houth - 'The Sun is So Red'

Lykke Hjorth, a volunteer organizer and former librarian, curates literature from around the world and leads the discussion. The reading circle is open to anyone who wants to share their reading experiences.

This time, Henriette Houth's novel 'The Sun is So Red' is on the agenda. The novel follows an adult daughter who, on her way home from the hospital - where her mother has just taken her own life - asks herself how to learn to live when both parents have rejected life. Her father died the same way many years earlier. The book traces the family's history: the father, the handsome doctor, and the mother, the young nurse, married but the marriage became turbulent with infidelities and suicide attempts, ending when the father abandoned the family. It is a novel about the indelible impact of family on our identity, about growing up in the shadow of death - and about choosing life.

Autumn's theme is 'Spiritual Resilience': what do we do when the world changes rapidly and much seems chaotic? The club reads and discusses novels that can give us spiritual and cultural resilience and strength.

The event takes place in Folkelab. Registered participants can pick up the book during staffed opening hours from October 2.
