Lykke's Reading Club: Patrick Flanery - 'Absolution'
Køge Bibliotek, Køge · 25 kr. · ≈ 3.3 €
Lykke Hjorth, a volunteer coordinator of the reading club and former librarian, selects literature from around the world and leads the discussion. The reading circle is open to everyone who enjoys sharing their reading experiences.
This autumn's book is Patrick Flanery's novel 'Absolution', set during and after apartheid in South Africa. In a lush garden in Cape Town, the world-renowned author Clare Wald has withdrawn behind high fences. She has chosen the young Sam Leroux to write her biography and lets him into her home and her life - but is she honest? What happened to her revolutionary daughter Laura, who disappeared twenty years ago? And was Clare complicit? The novel shifts perspective on the same events, and the pieces fall into place only at the end.
This autumn's theme is 'Spiritual Resilience': what do we do when the world changes rapidly and much seems chaotic? The reading circle reads and discusses novels that can provide cultural and spiritual resilience.
Registered participants can pick up the book at the library during staffed opening hours from August 21st. The meeting takes place in Folkelab.
