Barbed Wire and Flower Pistols — Køge Bibliotek, Køge

Drawing on the 1960s, Søren Koch takes the audience through a decade that encompassed everything from Beatlemania and the beat boom to flower power and psychedelic rock. Central to the story is how Danish youth and musicians took international impulses from The Beatles and the British beat scene and shaped them into something uniquely their own - and how nearly every Danish town within a few years got its own beat band, with community centres and youth clubs as focal points.

The presentation alternates between live music, sound clips, photographs and short film sequences, and Søren Koch brings a selection of historical instruments from the period. There is also a special section on Køge's local music scene in the 1960s - the bands, venues and young musicians who were part of the same wave.

Søren Koch is a musician and cultural communicator with deep knowledge of the era's rock and youth culture. He has played with Tim Christensen, Michael Falch, Poul Krebs and Marie Frank, been active in bands such as Beat The Meatles and The Beatophonics, and since 2018 has toured internationally as bassist in the British band The Zombies.
