Walks and Thinking Breaks - On Energy
Køge Bibliotek, Køge · Free
The Thinking Breaks series is published by Aarhus University Press and brings together short books where Danish researchers present scientific topics to a broad audience. This walking tour explores Energy, written by historian Mogens Rüdiger from Aalborg University.
Rüdiger shows in the book how each energy revolution has transformed both our everyday lives and society's structures - from fire and torches to light bulbs and radiators, from root cellars to refrigerators. Oil, coal and gas have made us dependent on light, heat and water, but have also put the planet under pressure. The conclusion is clear: fossil fuels are a finite resource, and we must find a way away from them.
The route is approximately 4 km and takes around two hours, so the group returns to Køge Library at the end. The event takes place regardless of weather - dress accordingly. The book can be borrowed from the library or accessed as an e-book or audiobook via the e-shelf.
