Walks and Thinking Breaks - On Small Talk
Køge Bibliotek, Køge · Free
Aarhus University Press publishes Thinking Breaks - a series of short books where Danish researchers present scientific topics to a broad audience. The concept Walks and Thinking Breaks combines this with fresh air: a walking tour of about 4 km based on one of the books. This time it is Small Talk by communication researcher Birte Asmuss from Aarhus University that sets the agenda.
The book examines the short, seemingly trivial conversations we have every day - about the weather, over the fence, with a stranger in line. Asmuss shows that they actually do more than nothing: they help doctors read a patient's wellbeing, build bridges between neighbours and ease the awkward first meeting with a customer.
The tour lasts about 2 hours and ends at Køge Library, from where it also starts. It is not cancelled due to weather, so dress according to the conditions. Small Talk can be borrowed from the library or obtained as an e-book or audiobook via the e-shelf.
