RÆSON: Love and Marriage in Past and Future - with Professor Karen Vallgårda

As Liva Weel sang in Poul Henningsen's 1940 song: "Love and marriage, what do they have to do with each other?" For many years, the answer was: quite a lot - marriage as the natural culmination of love. But it has not always been so, and perhaps it will not remain so.

Professor Karen Vallgårda is an expert in the history of emotions and has researched how our understanding of love and marriage has changed over time - and what happens when the dream breaks. The conversation takes us through marriage's evolution from a society-sustaining institution to an individual self-realization project, and discusses what awaits marriage in a society with ever more divorces. Editor Janus Lauritsen moderates, and time is set aside for questions and debate with the audience.

The event is part of the Main Library's conversation series in collaboration with the magazines RÆSON and ÆRA. In connection with the event, RÆSON and ÆRA offer special deals to the audience.

Free entry with ticket - seats cannot be reserved, and the view to the stage is limited from certain seats. The event takes place at LIVE, 4th floor, Store Scene, Copenhagen Main Library. From the Centralsal entrance on Krystalgade, you can reach the 4th floor via elevator, stairs, or escalator to the 3rd floor and then one flight of stairs up.
