Humanity Exists Only in the Plural - Hannah Arendt on Humanity, Pluralism and Society

Hannah Arendt (1906-1975) famously stated: the human exists only in the plural - as humans. Drawing on her own experiences as a Jew in Germany, she developed her thinking on the necessity of pluralism and how different people can live together in a shared society. Her ability to think independently, beyond the constraints of ideology, is why she remains relevant today - and the concept of 'the banality of evil' is just one example of how deeply she probed the question of what it takes to preserve humanity.

The lecture is held by Claus Christoffersen, who teaches philosophy and the history of ideas at Folkeuniversitetet and offers courses on Hannah Arendt, populism and democracy, among other topics. In 2022, he received the Athena Prize from Folkeuniversitetet as the first recipient, in recognition of his many years of work in public education.
