Description was written before the event

On 30 September 2026 at 19:30, Motetkoret under the direction of Julian Mallek presents the a cappella concert "Spirit and Nature" in Sct. Marie Church in Sønderborg.

The focus is on Danish composer Svend S. Schultz (1913-1998), whose choral works set Danish poetry to music with simple and colourful harmonies. The programme includes works such as "Yndigt dufter Danmark", "Efterårsstorm" and "Aftensalme", along with well-known Danish hymns and songs by Carl Nielsen and C.E.F. Weyse.

Organ interludes by Niels W. Gade and Carl Nielsen are woven between the choral pieces.

Free admission.

About the venue: Sct. Marie Kirke, Sønderborg

Sct. Marie Kirke stands on Kirketorvet in the centre of Sønderborg and, with its elevated position near Alssund, serves as one of the city's landmarks. The church was consecrated in 1600, replacing the older Sct. Jørgens Kirke, while the tower was added in 1883. The interior reflects Duke Hans the Younger's taste for the Renaissance style - the pulpit (1599) and altarpiece (1618) were both carved by Niels Tagesen of Sønderborg. The church also hosts concerts, including the opening event of the Orgelfestival in Sønderborg og omegn.
