Organ Festival - Opening Concert with David Peter Schmidt (Aarhus)
Opening concert of the Organ Festival featuring organist David Peter Schmidt performing a diverse programme from Baroque to contemporary works.
Sct. Marie Kirke stands on Kirketorvet in the centre of Sønderborg and, with its elevated position near Alssund, serves as one of the city's landmarks. The church was consecrated in 1600, replacing the older Sct. Jørgens Kirke, while the tower was added in 1883. The interior reflects Duke Hans the Younger's taste for the Renaissance style - the pulpit (1599) and altarpiece (1618) were both carved by Niels Tagesen of Sønderborg. The church also hosts concerts, including the opening event of the Orgelfestival in Sønderborg og omegn.
