Solar Eclipse - From Myth to Modern Science — Vordingborg Bibliotek, Vordingborg
Description was written before the event

In seconds, day transforms into night - only to return moments later, as if nothing happened. Solar eclipses are among the oldest documented astronomical phenomena and have sparked everything from fear to fascination throughout history.

On the occasion of the solar eclipse on August 12, this event focuses on the physics of the phenomenon: how does a solar eclipse occur, how can we predict it with great precision, and why is it actually a remarkable coincidence that solar eclipses can exist at this particular point in Earth's history?

The programme also covers the historical and cultural significance - from ancient astronomy and mythology to the role solar eclipses played in confirming Einstein's theories.

The event is a collaboration with Vordingborg Folk University. Read more about accessibility and admission conditions here.
