A Glorious Language Puzzle - New Words from Language to Language

Literary translator Signe Lyng has translated Ali Smith, Max Porter, and Kevin Barry into Danish - authors who all work creatively with language and invent entirely new words in their native tongues. But what does a translator do with that? What do we gain from a word we've never encountered before? Can words avoid meaning something - and why translate something that is already new?

This event takes you through the corners of language and explores why one word cannot be just as good as another. There will be an opportunity to ask questions and buy books.

The event takes place in Vogn 1 at Godsbanen and is free but requires advance registration. It is part of the culture festival Bag om Kulturen. From September 1st, the full festival programme can be found on the festival's website.
