The divided human being with a complex inner life is a central theme in the work of Russian author Fyodor Dostoevsky (1821-1881). Through readings, his realistic depictions of social reality, human behaviour and personalities are explored - conveyed through fictional characters.
The interplay of voices in his novels opens up reflections on some of the most enigmatic aspects of human existence. The fictional cannot be separated from the lived experience, and therefore Dostoevsky does not write merely theoretically about guilt, punishment, forgiveness and other existential questions.
