Modern Witches and Nature Connections: Thursday 15 October 2026, 17:00–18:30, Immigrantmuseet, Farum. Tickets cost 50 kr.

The lecture "Nature Calls - Modern Witchcraft" explores how the distance between humans and nature has grown, and how modern witches work to re-establish that connection through rituals, foraging, nature immersion and awareness of seasonal cycles.

The speaker is Asta Wellejus, an anthropologist and digital instructor who has studied Danish Nordic nature witches for four years. She also contributes to the Immigrantmuseet's special exhibition "The Seeking Human", which can be seen free of charge in the foyer of Farum Kulturhus until 31 October. In the lecture, she discusses how contemporary witches work with nature and train their senses to feel connections between humans, plants, animals and landscapes. She draws on fieldwork among Danish witches and her own practice - including an equinox ritual performed by a Danish witch group earlier this year. During the lecture, the audience will have the opportunity to try out a witchcraft practice themselves.

The lecture is supplemented by three VR films that Asta has made with artist Alfio Bonanno and art historian Christian Kortegaard. The films are based on Bonanno's work "Insect Forest" and explore the installation from the perspectives of four species: human, dog, bird and insect.

Asta's BA thesis from the University of Copenhagen, "The Deep Breath", is about methods for nature immersion and belonging and can be distributed in print at cost - write to asta@dieasta.dk no later than two days before the event if you want a copy on the day. Free coffee, tea and cake will be served. A workshop on rituals will also be held on 24 October.
