Train Journeys for Beginners - lecture with Nanna Hyldgaard Hansen: Tuesday 23 February 2027, 19:00–21:30, Gjern Kultur- og Idrætscenter, Gjern. Tickets cost 100 kr.

Author Nanna Hyldgaard Hansen presents her book "Train Journeys for Beginners in Norway and Sweden", published in 2025 and now in its fourth printing.

The lecture is packed with practical advice for planning a train holiday on your own - whether you travel solo, with family, or as a couple. You'll learn how to find cheap tickets in Norway and Sweden, book seat reservations, travel with Interrail, take night trains, plan connections, and discover the most beautiful routes. All destinations in the book are chosen for their easy access by train, with journeys for every season.

Among the specific routes covered are the Bergen Railway across Hardangervidda, the night train through Sweden to Abisko, the Rauma Railway through Norwegian mountains, the Nordland Railway over the Arctic Circle with stops at the caves in Mo i Rana and the tidal current in Bodø, the Ore Railway and Ofoten Railway through Swedish Lapland to Narvik, Dalarna with visits to the copper mines in Falun, the Frykdal Railway in Värmland - which allegedly inspired Astrid Lindgren's "The Brothers Lionheart" - and the train to Kristiansand and further out into the archipelago.

Nanna Hyldgaard Hansen is an author, lecturer, and journalist with a background in climate and sustainability. Her first book "Live for Half" became a bestseller, followed by "Rich in Time" and "Staycation Denmark with Children". Read more at www.levfordethalve.dk
