Evening Philosophy - Europe and Global Politics: Tuesday 1 December 2026, 17:00–18:59, Kulturbodega Bellis, Aarhus. Admission is free.

Folkeuniversitetet and professor of intellectual history Mikkel Thorup invite you to a series of philosophical evening lectures at Kulturbodega Bellis every Tuesday from week 43 to mid-December (not 24 November). Each lecture takes a current question as its starting point and pairs it with a text from an earlier turning point - from Kant, Marx and Weber to Freud, Orwell and Judith Shklar.

This event focuses on Aimé Césaire's Discourse on Colonialism from 1950, written at the threshold of the decolonization movement. Césaire examines how colonialism not only destroyed the colonies but also Europe itself - and using that text as our point of departure, we ask what it means for Europe's self-understanding now that Europe and the West are gradually losing their central position in global politics.
