Folkeuniversitetet and history of ideas professor Mikkel Thorup invite you to a series of philosophical evening lectures at Kulturbodega Bellis. Each event takes a current question as its starting point and pairs it with a text from an earlier period of upheaval - from Kant, Marx and Weber to Freud, Orwell and Judith Shklar - to explore what earlier thinkers can tell us about our own time.

This evening focuses on Judith Shklar's "The Liberalism of Fear" from 1989, written just as the liberal world order seemed strongest after the end of the Cold War. Using Shklar as a point of departure, Mikkel Thorup asks to what extent liberalism's current problems are self-inflicted, and what a reformulation might look like.

The series runs every Tuesday from week 43 until mid-December (not 24 November). The lecture runs 17:00-18:00, and tickets are purchased via Aarhus Folkeuniversitet at fuau.dk. The price is 75 kr. and includes a choice of a Tuborg bottle or a glass of lemonade.
