A Conversation on Art, Science, and What Does Not Yet Exist · Hovedbiblioteket, Aarhus
Description was written before the event

This conversation explores what happens when art and science meet: how artworks are created, who determines their value, and what art can contribute to climate questions - when we already know and feel what is at stake. How does art register environmental crises while simultaneously shaping the way we see them?

Visual Science Studio is the duo behind artist Maja Friis and creative producer Sofie Mønster. Over the past five years, they have presented art-science exhibitions at CPH:DOX, BLOOM, Copenhagen Light Festival, and Klimafolkemødet. In 2024, their exhibition Breathing Coral opened at the Natural History Museum Aarhus, and in 2026, Isens brydninger opened in the Rundetårn library hall. The exhibition Citater fra isen can be seen at DOKK1 until 28 October and afterwards at Nordatlantens Brygge in Copenhagen.

Anette Vandsø is a lecturer in Aesthetics and Culture at Aarhus University and co-leads - with Henrik Bødker - the research programme Environmental Media and Aesthetics. She researches how contemporary art registers and influences environmental crises, and also looks back at how art has historically addressed major environmental changes. She has previously been research and collections director at ARoS and today leads the research project Hidden Plant Stories in collaboration with Ordrupgaard, Den Hirschsprungske Samling, and Faaborg Museum.

Moderator: Jeanne Rank Schelde is a curator specializing in the intersection of art, science, and futures research. She has worked to bring artists and researchers together - including with Breathing Coral at the Natural History Museum Aarhus - and has previously been head of communication at the Natural History Museum and Skagens Museum.

Venue: Lille Sal
