Reading group: Waiting for God with Simone Weil: 8 November – 29 November 2026, Vesterbro Bibliotek og Kulturhus, Copenhagen. Admission is free.

Interest in French author and philosopher Simone Weil is growing across Europe. Her writings on how industrialization and technology affect our attention are seen by many as words for our time, and concepts like "rootedness" feel relevant to contemporary debate.

This reading group is based on Waiting for God - a personal and carefully considered work about waiting for God, faith and doubt, love of neighbour and prayer. The book moves from the biographical through the theological-philosophical to a concrete meditation on the Lord's Prayer, and consists of letters and texts that Weil sent to Dominican priest Father Joseph-Marie Perrin. The Danish translation is hard to find, but a PDF version is available for download.

The reading group meets three times at Vesterbro Library, room "Tom" in the adult section on the ground floor:

• Sunday 11 October, 14:30-16:00: Waiting for God: faith, doubt and spiritual experiences. Brief biographical introduction to Simone Weil by Lukas J. Kaarby. Read "Letters" (pp. 15-64).
• Sunday 8 November, 14:30-16:00: Loving God unconsciously: church actions, the world's beauty and neighbour. Read "Forms of unconscious love of God" (pp. 92-157).
• Sunday 29 November, 14:30-16:00: Praying to God: the Lord's Prayer. Read "On the Lord's Prayer" (pp. 158-167).

The room holds 12 people, so registration is required. Send an email to parish priest Niels Nymann Eriksen at nne@km.dk. Participation is free.
