Let's Talk About Louise Bourgeois

Louise Bourgeois - artistic universe: Wednesday 20 January 2027, 13:00–14:00, Institut Français, Frederiksberg. Tickets cost 125 kr.

Philippe Puisais explores the artistic universe of Louise Bourgeois, one of the 20th century's most significant artists. Born in France and later based in the United States, she created deeply personal work nourished by her own memories, emotions, and inner wounds. "Being an artist involves a certain form of suffering," she said, and her works clearly bear the mark of her complicated relationship with her father, whom she experienced as both authoritarian and misogynistic.

From personal experience grew a powerful and original art. Through themes of motherhood, sexuality, family, and memory, Bourgeois transformed her pain into a universal artistic language. In her sculptures, installations, and drawings, she explored human inner conflicts and vulnerability. Puisais examines how her personal history shaped her iconic works and why her art still speaks to audiences today. The lecture is delivered in accessible French.
