"Do you think we would still starve in the world if women had a say?" This quote from Niki de Saint-Phalle captures something central to the French-American artist: a self-taught sculptor, painter, and visual artist closely connected to the feminist movements of her time. Philippe Puisais tells the story of her colourful and bold universe, where art became a means of both personal liberation and artistic expression.
Niki de Saint-Phalle had a difficult childhood, and she transformed those experiences into powerful, original art. She is best known for her "Nanas" - large, colourful female figures celebrating women's freedom, strength, and joy of life. Through sculptures, installations, and sometimes provocative works, she challenged the taboos of her era and pointed to new ways of understanding the body, power, and women's place in society.
The lecture takes as its starting point a free and engaged artist whose universe continues to fascinate and inspire. It is held in easily understandable French.
