A Summer by Fontainebleau - Krøyer, Ancher and the Scandinavian Artists

In the late 19th century, artists from around the world, including many from Scandinavia, were drawn to the small village of Gretz-sur-Loing near the Fontainebleau forest. The peaceful, bohemian atmosphere attracted numerous painters. They worked in Paris studios during winter, and as soon as summer arrived, they moved to Gretz-sur-Loing to paint outdoors, close to nature.

Philippe Puisais tells the story of this cosmopolitan artistic community, where Scandinavian painters such as P.S. Krøyer, Anna Ancher, and Viggo Johansen, among others, worked.
