Let's Talk About... Camille Claudel and Other Women Sculptors in Paris Around 1900
Institut Français, Frederiksberg · 125 kr. · ≈ 17 €
Camille Claudel and women sculptors - lecture: Thursday 15 April 2027, 19:30–20:30, Institut Français, Frederiksberg. Tickets cost 125 kr.
Camille Claudel is today one of the most famous figures in art history - so famous that one might easily believe she was the only female sculptor of her time. She was not. Around 1900, several other women chose the same path and, despite the limitations their gender imposed at the time, carved out a place for themselves in the world of sculpture. Some were French, others were foreigners, many were daughters or wives of artists, and they were colleagues, friends, and sometimes rivals of Camille Claudel.
Philippe Puisais tells in this lecture about these still relatively unknown artists, including Jessie Lipscomb and Sigrid af Forselles. Together, their stories show how women gained a larger place in art at the end of the 19th century.
The lecture takes place on Thursday, April 15 at 7:30 p.m. at Institut Français du Danemark, Rolighedsvej 37, Frederiksberg. The price is 125 DKK including booking fee, and the lecture is held in easily understandable French.
