Beneath the ocean's surface, seaweed grows in a wealth of colours, shapes and sizes. Kelp forests along coastlines play the same role in marine ecosystems as forests do on land - they create food sources and shelter for marine organisms, absorb CO2, produce oxygen and counteract ocean acidification.

Humans have used seaweed as a resource since ancient times - for food, animal feed, fertilizer, gunpowder and materials. Today, seaweed is often mentioned as an answer to the climate crisis, food crisis and biodiversity crisis. But does it really work?

Seaweed is actually not a plant, but an alga. At this event, speaker Annette Bruhn, senior researcher in marine ecology at the Department of Ecoscience at Aarhus University, explains what seaweed and algae actually are, what distinguishes them from plants and animals, and how to cultivate them - both at sea and on land. The focus will also be on the sustainable solutions seaweed can contribute in the future, and you will have the opportunity to taste seaweed.
