How does a novel become embroidery?

Find out when Mejlbygruppen holds an opening reception at Risskov Library. The group has worked with Svend Åge Madsen's novel "Tugt og utugt i mellemtiden" and interpreted selected scenes from the book through embroidery and textile craftsmanship. The result is 18 independent embroidered works where literature, visual art, and craft meet in colourful and detailed interpretations.

Mejlbygruppen is a local women's community based at Risskov Church's parish house, which has existed for over 40 years. Today the group consists of 17 women aged 50 to 97, who meet weekly to create collaborative artworks in embroidery and textiles. They bring different experiences and craft skills to the work, where collaboration, precision, and organisation go hand in hand with the shared creative process.

At the opening reception you can hear about the works, the process behind them, and the connection to Svend Åge Madsen's authorship - and meet the women of Mejlbygruppen, who will talk about their community and work on the series. The exhibition can subsequently be seen at Risskov Library during library opening hours, in the Pavilion.

The project is supported by Frøpuljen and Initiativpuljen, Aarhus Municipality.
