The Book

Shadows in Wildwood is based on a real case from 1950s USA. On April 28, 1955, 14-year-old Stephanie Bryan disappears on her way home from Willard High School in Berkeley, California. Police have no leads - until months later, personal belongings turn up in a place and under circumstances that make no sense. The case was closed over 60 years ago, but when retired police commissioner Carl Hansen encounters the mystery again, his conclusion is clear: it should be reopened.

The Author

Steen Harvig was born in 1945 and grew up in Charlottenlund. He holds a master's degree in Danish and film studies from the University of Copenhagen, with a thesis on Hitchcock's films, and has worked as a folk high school teacher and lecturer. He made his debut in 1988 and has since written 13 critically acclaimed crime novels - primarily psychological thrillers featuring young police assistant Morten Krag and aging but sharp police commissioner Carl Hansen in the lead roles.
