Sound of Sewing
Sound of Sewing is an outdoor theatre sewing workshop where recycling, performance art, and humor meet in the urban space. Since 2003, Karin Arts and Mariken Biegman-van Geel have toured the world with bicycles, antique sewing machines, and a performance universe where the audience is an active part of the show.
Everyone is welcome to bring old clothes, which the two artists transform into personal artworks - completely free. All they need is someone to pedal the machines so the old equipment can run. The performance connects to the UN Sustainable Development Goal 12 on responsible consumption and production.
Sound of Sewing is part of Copenhagen Street Theatre Festival, running from 23 to 30 August 2026 and visiting Husum, Nørrebro, Sydhavn, Valby, and Ørestad. The festival is free and welcomes children and their adults. Organizer: Lygten Station. Supported by: Bispebjerg Local Committee.
