Debut Fest: Sofie Birkum

Sofie Birkum's exhibition explores what cannot be photographed directly: mental states, moods, and memories. The central question is how to stage a feeling - an answer that unfolds in a space between presence and absence, order and dissolution.

Visitors enter an installation combining photographic works, objects, and spatial interventions. Curtains, transparency, and fragments function as both barriers and openings - some things are hidden, some can be glimpsed, and some reveal themselves. The photographs range from hazy landscapes and analog recordings to found natural fragments, collectively examining humanity's drive to create meaning in a world that can feel overwhelming.

Sofie Birkum works at the intersection of photography, installation, and spatial storytelling. She studied performance design and communication at RUC and treats space as an active part of the work alongside the images themselves. She has previously created nomadic exhibitions in empty spaces and participated in curatorial and interdisciplinary projects including Skabertrang and Monday Studio, as well as gallery work in Copenhagen.
