Studio visit - Animated Sickwalker: Saturday 19 December 2026, 11:00–13:00, Warehouse9, Copenhagen. Admission is free.
Studio visit: Animated Sickwalker by Kat Staub and Sara Koppel is part of Qlab, Warehouse9's laboratory for artistic development. On Saturday the 19th, Kat and Sara open the doors to their working process as part of the collaboration between Qlab and Warehouse9.
Over two hours, guests can gain insight into the new collaboration between performance and animation and into Kat and Sara's artistic universes. Excerpts from the work may be shown and working methods discussed, and guests may have the opportunity to try something physical themselves.
Animated Sickwalker is a newly launched interdisciplinary performance project between performance artist Kat Staub and animator Sara Koppel. The starting point is Kat's performative exploration of chronic illness across generations and alternative sexuality, combined with Sara Koppel's hand-drawn 2D animation. The two artists' works meet in surreal confrontations with inherited dysfunction, in dark and humorous kinky spaces, and in a narrative style that is both experimental and classical. The project is built on a love of physical craftsmanship and aims to highlight the value of human-made art in new formats through the cultivation of professional traditions.
Kat Staub is a choreographer and performance artist trained at Universität der Künste in Berlin. Since 2020, she has developed her interdisciplinary method through cabaret and drag and in hybrid performances that blend unconventional puppetry, dynamic voice work, and dance. She also teaches performance, especially to teenagers and young adults.
Sara Koppel is an award-winning animator and one of the last in Denmark working with hand-drawn animation. She has 35 years of experience and has built a film production with emotionally charged, psychedelic journeys about family, gender, climate-catastrophic universes, and enticing bodily states. Today she runs the animation studio Naked Love Film in Copenhagen.
