Writing Workshop: Editing Yourself and Others

This workshop focuses on editing your own and others' texts in short forms such as poetry and short prose. Through tips, examples, and exercises, you will sharpen your writing and learn to give feedback on fellow participants' work. You'll also receive advice on working with an editor if your manuscript has been accepted by a publisher.

The instructor is Christel Sunesen, publisher and editor at Ekbátana, which publishes new Danish literature and cross-disciplinary works under the motto "Always good books before good money." She received the Diploma for Appreciation of Fine Book Work 2023 from the Association for Book Crafts and the Sigvaldi Prize from the Danish Arts Foundation. She is also the initiator of the literature festival Lille Bogdag, co-owner of the online bookstore Mikrofest (with Lars Emil Foder), former editor and member of the Center for Genre Studies at the University of Copenhagen, and a board member of the Danish Publishers Association.

The workshop is free and open to adults but requires registration via Billetto. It takes place in the Othello room at Christianshavn Library - from the entrance, follow the wall to the right through the library space and turn at the first corner; Othello is a side room along the right wall. There are no computers available, so bring your own and/or paper and pen. Desk space is very limited, and you may need to work with your computer or paper in your lap - writing boards will be provided as support. The library has a coffee machine, but bring your own beverages.

Copenhagen Libraries holds writing workshops throughout the city every month. Each workshop is a standalone two-hour session with presentations and writing exercises - not a continuous course.
