Writing Workshop: The Address

This workshop explores "you" - the person a text addresses, willingly or not. Who is this you? How is it created, and what happens to the text when it enters? The questions are both formal and ethical: can one truly see what one believes one loves - and is a portrait at best an elegant sleight of hand, at worst a kind of theft?

Drawing on Iris Murdoch's thoughts on attention as a moral matter, participants write texts in the borderland between letter, poem, and note - intimate and ecstatic at once. Writers such as Frank O'Hara, Sebastian Nathan, Edith Södergran, Forough Farrokhzad, James Schuyler, and Patricia Cavalli serve as inspiration.

The workshop is led by Caroline Albertine Minor, author and translator. She debuted with the novel Pura vida (2013) and has since published the short story collection Blessings (2017), which won the Strunge Prize and the P.O. Enquist Prize. The Shield of the Lobster (2020) and the poetry collection Nivå Bay Beach Meadows (2024) followed, and in early June this year the novel The Beloved Friend was published - a kaleidoscopic exploration of a ten-year friendship that was intellectual, emotional, and erotic.

The workshop is free but requires registration on Billetto and is for adults. It takes place in the Othello room at Christianshavn Library: from the entrance, follow the wall to the right through the library space and turn at the first corner - Othello is a side room along the right wall. Seating is very limited, so you will likely need to sit with your computer or paper in your lap. Bring your own computer and/or paper and pen, and a water bottle - there is a coffee machine in the room but no other refreshments. Writing boards for notepads are provided.

Copenhagen Libraries holds writing workshops throughout the city every month. Each workshop is standalone, lasts two hours, and includes a presentation and writing exercises - it is not a course.
