Writing Workshop: Monsters

In this workshop, the monster is the focal point - not as a villain, but as a literary figure with its own voice. Participants read excerpts from literary texts and write from the monsters' perspective to explore what happens when the non-human gets to speak.

The workshop is held as part of the Don't Fear the Weird festival and is arranged in collaboration with PsykInfo. The instructor is author Rasmus Daugbjerg (b. 1993), a graduate of the Danish Writers' School and Biskops Arnö Författerskola. He is known for 'Trold' (2022), which won him the Michael Strunge Prize and nominations for the Montana Literature Prize and the Blixen Prize. In 2026, his novel 'Rasmus Nielsøn' is being published, which is freely based on a historical source from the late 1500s about the tenant farmer Rasmus Nielsøn's encounter with the mermaid Ibrant.

The session lasts two hours and consists of presentations and writing exercises. It is free, aimed at adults, and requires registration on Billetto.

The workshop takes place at Copenhagen's Main Library, 4th floor, room LIVE. Computers are not provided - bring your own laptop and/or paper and pen. Desk space is very limited, so you will likely need to work with your computer or paper in your lap; a writing board is provided as a base. On the 4th floor there is a water station and a coffee machine, but no other refreshments - bring your own water bottle. To reach the 4th floor, you can take the elevator, stairs, or escalators to the 3rd floor and then one flight up - all entrances are on the right when you enter the Central Hall from Krystalgade.
