Exhibition: Vibeke Mencke Nielsen — Vordingborg Bibliotek, Vordingborg

Vibeke Mencke Nielsen (born 1937) is a Danish painter and printmaker, trained at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from 1958 to 1964. From 1989 to 1998, she was the first female professor at the academy's graphic school.

The exhibition primarily features works on paper. Her subjects centre on the intimate - portraits and everyday objects - with a naturalistic foundation that often moves towards the abstract and symbolic.

Vibeke Mencke Nielsen is a member of the artist collective Kammeraterne and has created decorative works for, among others, the Danish Crafts Council and the University of Copenhagen. Alongside her artistic practice, she was affiliated with the Institute for Social Research from 1964 to 1971 and Danish Radio from 1983 to 1987. She served as chair of the Academy Council from 1987 to 1990 and as president of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, as well as board member for numerous museums and former member of the board of the Danish Artists' Council. She received the Eckersberg Medal in 2005 and a lifetime grant from the State Art Foundation from 1998.

Opening reception Friday, 14 August at 4 p.m.
