Writing Workshop: Write Essays

An essay means "an attempt" - and this workshop is about getting started with exactly that.

We explore the genre that sits at the intersection of fiction and non-fiction. Using exemplary texts, we investigate together what makes a well-functioning essay: How do you create a linguistic engine? What role should the "I" play - or not play? And how do you write in dialogue with other texts? The workshop is anchored in a lecture and includes several writing exercises.

The instructor is Amalie Langballe, author and journalist. In her columns, opinion pieces, and literary work, she uses her personal history to explore sexuality, power, desire, and relationships. She debuted in 2019 with "forsvindingsnumre", a grief novel about a daughter's attempt to make sense of herself and life after her mother's death. Her next novel, "elskende" from 2025, takes place in a medieval brothel, and in 2026 she published "Nye dyder" - an essay collection with conversations with the Bible.

The workshop takes place in Glassalen, Kvarterhuset, 19:00-21:00. Participation is free but requires registration on Billetto. Bring a laptop and/or paper and pen - desk space is very limited, so pen and paper are recommended. Questions can be directed to literature coordinator Jakob at uk1q@kk.dk.
