The High Society
Drop inn, Copenhagen · 120 kr. · ≈ 16 €
The High Society calls their genre acid soul - a term that encompasses music moving between jazz, soul, funk and R&B. The repertoire ranges from broad, almost big-band-like arrangements to tight, rocking power soul, ballads and psychedelic soundscapes, with Xander Calasahan on lead vocals.
The band was created by father and son Otto and Kristoffer Sidenius. Otto has a long career behind him with names like Peter Belli, Drori-Hansen Furniture and Avantgarden Party, and is particularly known as a Hammond organist. Kristoffer comes from FastPoHolmen, where he has made his mark on concerts and four albums over the past 12 years.
Tonight's programme draws from the debut album Down From the Stars and introduces new material from an upcoming Danish-language album. The show is set up for improvisation and space to take the music in new directions.
Live band: Xander Calasahan (vocals), Otto Sidenius (keyboards), Mads Nørgaard (guitar), Jivin Cameron (bass), Kristoffer Sidenius (drums), Erik Kimestad (trumpet), Helle Hesdorf (tenor and soprano saxophone).
