Wild About Science - Before the Year Ends with Lea Korsgaard

On New Year's Day, in the winter darkness, Lea Korsgaard writes a list. She has decided to see all Danish butterfly species within a single year - without prior knowledge of butterflies and without a clear explanation for why she wants to.

The hunt takes her through landscapes she didn't know existed: ancient seabeds, hillsides formed by algae skeletons, secret places she discovers with help from strangers. It also leads her into books, philosophy, and mythology - for since ancient times, the butterfly has symbolized hope for rebirth and confronted us with fundamental questions about existence: Why do we live? And what do we live for?

The lecture is based on Lea Korsgaard's latest book, the nature-philosophical and existential narrative "Before the Year Ends" (2025). Korsgaard is co-founder and editor-in-chief of Zetland, chair of DMJX, and a trained journalist from SDU with sociology studies from New York. She has previously published "Orgasmeland" and "The One Who Shouts Lies".

The event is part of Copenhagen Libraries' festival "Wild About Science", running in October and November with science communication for adults at all Copenhagen Libraries. Venue: 3rd floor. Tickets are non-refundable unless the conditions for the event change.
