Science and Cocktails in X31: Information, disinformation, and the future of society

Science & Cocktails presents an event with Carl T. Bergstrom, professor of biology at the University of Washington and author of "Calling Bullshit". As an evolutionary social biologist, he will discuss what the future holds for human communication and collective decision-making in a world shaped by AI-generated information.

The lecture explores central questions: Why does misinformation spread faster than ever? What do social media do to our ability to form shared understanding? And what happens when large language models like ChatGPT flood the global conversation with text indistinguishable from human writing? Bergstrom examines how we got here, where AI chatbots are taking us, and what options we have for action.

Before the lecture, Alaska Blonde performs - a surf trio where bassist Jesper Lund Jakobsen plays baritone balalaika, giving the band's energetic, reverb-soaked surf rock a raw, acoustic edge and a distinctive sound. The music is instrumental and electric.

Seated tickets are paid. Standing room is free but requires arrival by 20:00 - after that, entry is first-come, first-served. The event is held in English with support from the Novo Nordisk Foundation.
