Den Grå Hal (The Grey Hall) in Freetown Christiania on Christianshavn is a listed riding hall from 1891, originally part of the Bådsmandsstræde barracks. Since Christiania was established in the 1970s, the 47 x 19 metre space has hosted concerts, theatre, lectures and markets - and every year it holds Christiania's Christmas market and communal Christmas Eve celebration. Standing capacity is 1,700; past acts include Bob Dylan, Metallica and Rage Against the Machine. The hall is run by volunteers and rented out to promoters.
