6-Week Pottery Wheel Course for Intermediate Beginners - Autumn 2026 — Keramikværkstedet KFF, Copenhagen

Instructor: Kristine Højstrup Søe

Dates: Wednesdays 17:00-20:00 on 19/8, 26/8, 2/9, 9/9, 16/9, 30/9

This 6-week pottery wheel course is designed for those with some experience who want to refresh their technique, refine their skills, and take on more ambitious projects. The course covers the fundamentals of wheel throwing: clay preparation, centering, pulling, shaping, and trimming. You'll explore various decorative techniques throughout the course and finish by glazing your finished pieces. Note that there is a 14-day gap between the last two sessions to allow your work to dry and be bisque-fired before glazing.

The course combines group demonstrations of techniques with individual guidance. Classes are held in the welcoming Keramikværksted on Birkedommervej in Copenhagen NV, with a maximum of 5 participants, ensuring plenty of space for focused exploration of clay's possibilities. The course fee includes 3 kg of clay, glazing, and firing. Additional clay can be purchased. Teaching ends at 19:30, followed by shared cleanup.

About the instructor: You will be taught by ceramicist Kristine Søe, who has extensive experience in wheel throwing and teaching. Kristine runs courses in wheel throwing and other ceramic techniques at evening schools and cultural centres in Copenhagen and Roskilde. She completed the foundational course "Craft and Technique" with a focus on wheel throwing at TEC in Gladsaxe as part of the Potter's Programme (2006). Kristine is also a qualified art teacher and holds a Cand.Pæd in Didactics - Material Culture from DPU. In her own practice, Kristine primarily creates functional stoneware pieces on the wheel, with a particular focus on the relationship between functionality and form, and the interplay between clay and glazes.
