AMERIKA - Teatret Slotsgården at KUNSTEN in Aalborg - Open-Air Theatre
Kunsten Museum of Modern Art Aalborg, Aalborg
A free adaptation of Kafka's unfinished novel. Experience the acclaimed Teatret Slotsgården's theatrical version of Kafka's unfinished 1927 novel. Kafka's Amerika is a free fantasy about a continent he never visited himself. With naive and curious eyes, he follows the European KARL as he emigrates to America, encountering various fates in a story that feels like a fever dream, forcing him to find and lose himself in this dreamland.
Karl arrives from Europe to America hoping for a fresh start, feeling betrayed by the old world and seeking happiness in the promised land. After arriving in New York, a road trip unfolds through social classes, distorted landscapes, and a series of bizarre encounters with people who never quite understand each other, in a time that slowly dissolves around them. The novel was never finished and contains no ending. Whether Karl becomes Carl, or remains a tourist; whether the European says goodbye to America; whether Americans are idiots or the ones who can teach us something - only time will tell.
In a sharp, wild, and surprising production, five actors from the theatre's ensemble create a funny, tragicomic, and relevant performance in true Teatret Slotsgården style, under the open sky. Experience AMERIKA at KUNSTEN Museum of Modern Art Aalborg.
