Dela Botri & Katrine Suwalski - Rhythm & Wind
Rhythm and Wind is an international musical collaboration between Ghanaian flutist, percussionist and composer Dela Botri and Danish saxophonist and composer Katrine Suwalski. The music explores the borderland between jazz and West African musical tradition, featuring strong, beautiful melodies and plenty of groove. The two met in Ghana in 2015 and have performed together regularly in both Denmark and Ghana since then. In 2018 they released the duo album Ghana Calling with new music for saxophone, flute and percussion. Reviewer Torben Holleufer wrote in Jazzspecial about the album: "...the Ghanaian flute is beautiful as birdsong and is played as it is sung simultaneously. It is tremendously uplifting, and almost like a forest of chirping birds, somewhat reminiscent of the famous singers from the Cameroonian rainforest..." The band also features the fantastic kora player Lamine Cissokho from Senegal, known for his collaborations with Habib Koite and Mande Sila, and Copenhagen-based percussionist Ayi Solomon from Ghana, known from collaborations with New Jungle Orchestra and Palle Mikkelborg. Katrine Suwalski is also known from Another World, KASOLA trio, BoNoir Trio and is currently touring internationally with the theatre production Le Tremblement du Monde. Dela Botri leads his own ten-piece orchestra, Hewale Sounds, in Accra and is one of Ghana's finest musicians. All four musicians are known from the international jazz and world music scene, and this is a unique opportunity to experience them together at Metronomen in Frederiksberg. The concert opens with an artist dialogue facilitated by Karen Lauterbach, lecturer at the Center for African Studies at the University of Copenhagen. The concert is arranged in collaboration between Worldscene Platform, Sommerladen and the University of Copenhagen.
