PRiMi: Membrane • PRiMi Lab #2 feat. Ayi Solomon
An experimental music evening featuring the collective Membrane and PRiMi Lab with Ayi Solomon, a legendary Ghanaian musician who has collaborated with world-class jazz and world-music artists.
Ayi Solomon is a Ghanaian-Danish percussionist and singer, born in 1956 and raised in Mamprobi, a suburb of Accra. He arrived in Copenhagen in 1982 with the reggae band Classique Vibes and settled in Denmark, where he has since been a central figure in jazz and world music. From 1990 he was a member of Pierre Dørge's New Jungle Orchestra, and has worked alongside musicians including Palle Mikkelborg and Bo Stief. In 2026 he received the Ben Webster Foundation's honorary award for his contribution to the Danish jazz scene.
Ayi Solomon received the Ben Webster Foundation honorary prize at a ceremony at Bartof Station in Copenhagen on April 26, 2026 and performed with his band on the same occasion.
The Ben Webster Foundation justified the prize by stating that Ayi Solomon throughout a long life has made a personal mark on the Danish jazz scene.
Ayi Solomon performed at the prize presentation with a band consisting of guitarist Alain Apaloo, saxophonist Anders Banke, pianist Morten Schantz, bassist Yasser Pino and drummer Rasmus Lund.
Ayi Solomon released the singles "Mamprobi Shuffle" (feat. Anders Banke) and "New Birth" (feat. Mads Mathias) in 2025.
Ayi Solomon participated as a percussionist on the album "Adrift" with Søren Skov Orbit, released on Frederiksberg Records in August 2024.
