Botanical Garden and the Conservation of the World's Plants

Many of the world's plants are threatened. At the Botanical Garden, we actively work to protect and preserve nature - both in Denmark and internationally. Join us on a guided tour behind the scenes and experience some of the Botanical Garden's special plant collections while learning more about our efforts to preserve plant diversity and species. The Botanical Garden is a living museum with research, education, and nature conservation as its main tasks. The garden is also home to a herbarium containing Denmark's largest collection of preserved plants, a spirit collection, a useful plants collection, a wood collection, and a seed collection, which is only accessible to researchers. Some of these collections rank among the world's most important for threatened species and natural areas. This tour takes you behind the scenes into both the garden's propagation greenhouses and our conservation greenhouses. Here you can experience Seidenfaden's famous orchids and other rare plant collections, which are normally not accessible to the public. Your ticket also includes free admission to one visit to the Palm House on the day of the tour during regular opening hours. To secure your preferred time slot, we recommend booking your visit with free admission in our webshop. Please note that access to parts of the Palm House is currently limited due to renovation. In 2025, the Botanical Garden achieved Botanic Gardens Conservation International (BGCI)'s Conservation Practitioner Accreditation. This is official international recognition of the garden's active and targeted efforts in plant conservation. The BGCI accreditation underscores the garden's role as a central part of the global work to understand, protect, and preserve plants and their habitats.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION
Duration: 1.5 hours. Guests: Up to 25 participants per tour. The tour is aimed at adults. Meeting point: Entrance via the main entrance to the Botanical Garden near Nørreport Station (Gothersgade 126). We meet in front of the Botanical Garden's shop.
