Workshop on Gothic Handwriting

This workshop is an introduction to Gothic handwriting - the script used in the first half of the 19th century - and to entering archive material into Kildetasteren.

You will learn about Copenhagen City Archives' custom-developed Gothic Image Book, one of several tools that can help you decipher Gothic handwriting. During the workshop, we will collectively enter records from burial protocols, giving you practical experience with how the tools work. No prior knowledge is required - only a willingness to learn.

Kildetasteren is the archives' online platform where volunteers enter archive material to make it searchable for genealogists, historians, and other interested parties. The goal of the workshop is for you to feel confident enough afterwards to enter burial protocols from Assistent Cemetery yourself.
