Nature's Craft: Wool Felting a Seat Cushion — Esrum Kloster & Møllegård, Græsted

Wool has been one of humanity's most important natural materials for thousands of years - it cools, warms, insulates and retains its properties even when wet. It can be shaped into everything from clothing and carpets to sails and containers, is durable, resists wear and breaks down naturally. Compared to synthetic materials, it is also less energy-intensive to produce.

The course begins with a short walk on the monastery meadow, where the sheep graze - the same meadow where monks kept sheep over 500 years ago. Then we start wet felting: you get the wool in your hands and learn the technique while we together felt a practical seat cushion that you can take with you. It keeps you warm and provides a dry place to sit. Along the way there is also time to learn how to card wool.

Meeting point is the farmyard at Møllegården in front of the Mill Café. Tea, coffee and cake are included, but lunch is not - bring a packed lunch or buy at the café. Remember to dress for the weather, as we are outside all day. The course requires no prior craft experience.
