Yalla Miku (CH)

Swiss band Yalla Miku visits KLEIN on 10 October. Doors at 20:00, concert at 20:30.

The band is a five-person collective from Geneva's underground music scene: Samuel Ades Tesfagergsh, Louise Knobil, Cyril Bondi, Emma Souharce and Cyril Yeterian. Together they play strings, bass, guitar, percussion, synthesizers and electronics - and all five sing. The songs move across Arabic, French and Tigrinya, while the music blends postpunk, afrofunk, dub, krautrock and psychedelic rock with traditions from East Africa and the Middle East.

On their second album "2", they turn up the musical collisions: chaabi tips into psychedelic rock, postpunk filters into dub, and industrial rhythms emerge amid East African melodies. The album was recorded live and bears the mark of the spontaneity central to the band - music with room for improvisation, odd ideas and distinctive grooves, played by five musicians who see no reason to keep genres apart.
