Apricot

Apricot is a newly written food theatre performance that takes the form of a launch dinner for a fictional European tech project. In an abandoned co-working space sits Merete Østerlund - a high-ranking EU official who has spent decades documenting and mapping the problem of technological sovereignty and delivering her recommendations. Without result. One day she begins to imagine an alternative.

APRICOT asks what it would take for Europe to reclaim power over the digital infrastructure we already live in. But as Merete tries to map Europe's digital future, she is forced to look back - at the people, stories and landscapes that technology risks leaving behind. At the apricot grove that once grew where Silicon Valley stands today.

It is too late to roll back the surveillance society. The question now is: Which surveillance society can we live with being complicit in? Through gastronomic installations, political visions and personal insights, the performance explores the relationship between technology, democracy, desire and memory.
