Historical Bushcraft

In this course, we work with hazel - a tree with over 10,000 years of cultural history in the Nordic region. Our ancestors exploited the hazel tree's toughness and flexibility for fish traps, woven fences, tool handles, and other implements. For Stone Age people, hazelnuts were an important energy source.

We venture into the cultural landscape at Esrum Kloster to harvest hazel, collect natural tinder materials to make fire, and gather plant fibres to make rope. From the hazel branches, we craft frame saws and wilderness chairs using classic bushcraft techniques. The day concludes with a shared meal cooked over a fire.

Meeting point: the courtyard at Møllegården in front of Møllecafeen. Lunch is not included - bring a packed lunch or buy at the cafe. Dress for the weather, as we are outdoors all day. The course requires no prior craft experience.
