Lecture: 50 Years of Building and Urban Development in Køge

The Friends of Køge City Archive have invited architect Poul Jorsal to speak about his work in Køge over nearly half a century. Jorsal came as a young farmer's son from Jutland to Køge, where he established his architectural practice in 1977, and has since been closely involved in the city's development as a practising architect.

The lecture covers topics including Køge's major residential construction in the 1980s, the period when 400 homes were on the drawing board at once, how Køge became nationally known for dense low-rise housing, projects that have received both praise and criticism, and collaboration with developers, politicians and municipal authorities.

Jorsal will use concrete examples to discuss concepts such as beauty and ugliness, right and wrong - and offer his perspective on how the quality of future building can be strengthened. He argues, among other things, that Køge Municipality should adopt a proper architecture policy as a basis for dialogue between citizens, politicians and administration.

Free for members of the Friends of Køge City Archive. Membership can be taken out at the event.
