Anette Tønnes Pedersen is a senior consultant and PhD at the gynaecology, fertility and obstetrics department of Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen, where she has spent more than 30 years researching and treating menopausal women. She led the expert group behind the Danish Society of Obstetrics and Gynaecology's updated guidelines on hormone therapy, published in early 2026, and is considered one of Denmark's most experienced physicians in the field. She is also a frequent expert voice in Danish media and podcasts on menopause.
The Danish Society for Obstetrics and Gynaecology published new guidelines for hormone treatment during menopause, which Anette Tønnes Pedersen led the work on.
Dagens Medicin criticized in a debate article that her paid teaching and lectures for pharmaceutical companies were not clearly disclosed in connection with the new guidelines.
She stated that the large American WHI study from 2002 has had too much influence on Danish women's use of hormone treatment.
In an article about general practitioners' reluctance with hormone treatment, she said that the work on the updated guidelines was underway and would include guidance on testosterone treatment.
