Charlie McDowell is an American film director and screenwriter, born in Los Angeles in 1983 to actors Malcolm McDowell and Mary Steenburgen. His debut feature "The One I Love" (2014) earned strong reviews at Sundance, and he went on to direct the Netflix dramas "The Discovery" (2017) and "Windfall" (2022). His fourth film, "The Summer Book" (2024), adapts Tove Jansson's novel with Glenn Close as the grandmother, shot on 16mm in the Finnish archipelago and released theatrically across Scandinavia and North America.
